Saints Cyril and Methodius and their students are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet used to transcribe Old Church Slavonic and Cyrillic alphabet. The Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets are the oldest known Slavic alphabets, and were created to translate the Bible and other texts into the Slavic languages.
